| Protecting the citizens of the United States is job one. According to the 2018 budget total US government spending for defense is $869.3 billion. Military spending is budgeted at $643.3 billion, Veterans spending is budgeted at $178.7 billion, and foreign policy and foreign aid spending is budgeted at $47.3 billion. As a supportive military family member I will work for our military. I will also advocate to allocate more towards foreign policy and aid spending understanding the importance of diplomacy as a effective deterrent to future conflict which will have positive impacts to the budget as a whole. | |||

| I'm a school nurse, and as a healthcare professional I understand that a clean environment means improved public health. You can't have healthy communities without clean air and clean water. I see this as a public health issue. Too many kids in Ohio have asthma from breathing dirty air and people shouldn't have to worry about drinking dirty water. I am against gutting the EPA, rolling back fuel standards, and unleashing fracking even in our national forests. I'll defend my district from these attacks on public health, and push for ending the consumer ripoffs from dirty coal and nuke plants. | |||

The one room schoolhouse of yesterday has become the OK Corral of today. I can tell you first-hand the demand for services is overwhelming. Families, schools and institutions desperately need help. In an effort to curb mass shootings I support the implementation of universal background checks and a ban on assault style weapons. As a strong public health advocate, I believe gun violence should be addressed with research based approach to violence prevention. | |||

The bottom line of our for-profit system: We pay more and get worse results. The high cost of healthcare means that one in five adults don't seek the necessary medical attention, pushing those with preventable health conditions into expensive treatments in hospital and emergency rooms. I will vote for any legislation that reduces healthcare spending that provides affordable and equitable care for all. Healthcare is a human right; not a profit center. | |||

As Martin Luther King Jr. so eloquently stated, "we all came in on different ships, but we're all in the same boat now." I believe we should build bridges to citizenship, not walls. | |||

The doctrine outlines key questions: Is a vital national security interest threatened? Do we have a clear attainable objective? Have the risks and costs been fully and frankly analyzed? Have all other non-violent policy means been fully exhausted? Is there a plausible exit strategy to avoid endless entanglement? Have the consequences of our action been fully considered? Is the action supported by the American people? Do we have genuine broad international support? | |||
| My decision-making process will be guided by conversations with constituents and only after careful review of fact-based information. I support bipartisan legislation if what is being proposed is best for the district, Ohio and our country. I will put the interests of people above partisan rivalry or party affiliation. My goal: work the hardest I can for Ohio's 12th Congressional District constituents and their families, as I have done my whole life as a veteran's daughter, combat service member's wife, mother and nurse working in the community I love and committed to improving when elected. |
